To get the system workable again you should try to log into a the failsafe
session and run in the failsafe terminal:
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This should hopefully bring your system back.
