Binary package hint: update-manager

Update manager reported that I have a new version available and asks if I want 
to upgrade. I choose yes and it starts upgrading. During the phase of upgrading 
the software channels, it reports:
"Your system is up-to-date"
"There are no upgrades available for your system. The upgrade will now be 
canceled."
and stops the upgrade process.
If the system is up-to-date, why did it tell me I have a new version available?

The previous version is 7.10RC.

Linux MP-JT 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
