Marking to Confirmed. Reporter found work around using Alternate CD to
achieve successful install. Could have been a RAM issue. If you run
out of RAM (256 to 384 MB required for Live CD installation) then
installation can run into errors. Alternate CD uses less RAM.

What happens when you put in the Live CD and select: Boot from First
Hard Disk?
GRUB has problems (sometimes) detecting multiple operating systems and
selecting the correct boot parameters in menu.lst or grub.conf.
Sometimes you have to manually edit them to get GRUB to find all of the
OS's loade
