This seems to be related to #153204.
Could you check if the following workaround works for you?
Type the following line in a Terminal
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Start Advance Desktop Effects Settings (System->Preferences->Advance Desktop
Effects Settings).
Click on "Gene
I have had the same problem and my entire desktop HANGS each time that
happens and then you exit (using ESC) from presentation mode. Will there
be a fix for this in hardy?

I have the same problem with the screensaver. When it is active, it
started flicking, but when I turn off compiz-fusion, it working fine. To
me, I think the latest compiz-fusion for gutsy update maybe have some
bug or so.
