Found problem. The Gnome VFS library was corrupted. I md5'd several files and
found that they did not match the md5 of the original files inside the packages
which I knew to be good. After replacing the corrupted packages the system
works as expected.
As a side note I suspect they became corrup
running from the failsafe xterm session I was able to get this error from the
status line of ddd:
"(nautilus:7792): libgnomevfs-CRITICAL **: Could not launch mount command:
Failed to create pipe for communicating with child process (Too many open
Files)"
This came about while attempting to unmo
