I will withdraw this report. As I made clear in the original report, I could not install Gutsy Gibbon from CD on this machine. This was the failure that was not understood. Now over a year later, I have done complete install from CD, of 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. However, before I did so, I had found

Hi Steve, Can you just clarify for me when you say I attempt to install that version of Ubuntu, you mean you are attempting to install Hardy? If this is the case would you be able to also test for us if this issue still exists if you try to do a fresh install of the more recent Intrepid Ibex

If I attempt to install that version of Ubuntu on the machine I am typing this message with RIGHT NOW, the problem will still occur. Has this been resolved? If you have tried it, understood it, and made sure the bug is not in current releases, then I will be very glad if you close the report.

As stated in the message, the problem occurs when installing from CD's that have been burnt and double-checked. This was on a Dell Latitude D420 with 1.2GB RAM and lots of hard disk space. It is now running Ubuntu 8.04. In the meantime, I did an upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 as I suggested. Only
