Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been
discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that
there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be

that applet :(
Can you validate that you can do steps from first
Even in Kubuntu 8.10, the most recent version of Kubuntu, we are still using
the KDE3 NetworkManager applet.
In Kubuntu 9.04, however, we are using the KDE4 Plasma widget. If you could
test with a live CD it would be much appreciated. Alternatively we could just
close the bug report if you would
That bug was with KDE 3.5.* version, but in current Ubuntu release - KDE 4.x
used.
I tried to check this bug, but current KNetworkManager do not support this
function.
I suggest closing of this bug because of change KDE major version.
BR :)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

In hardy there's even a bigger problem. If you change the hostname with
KNetworkManager, the /etc/hosts file is also not updated which causes
sudo to fail:
