Thanks to comment #19 (above), I seemed to have fixed things by setting
junk preferences globally. I had already enabled junk filtering by
account.
Apparently junk filtering must be enabled at *both* the global and the
account level for it to work at all. Not sure if this is a bug or a
feature, bu
For me, I had to do this to get it fixed:
1. Edit->Preference->Privacy->Junk
--> check "When I mark messages as junk:"
--> select "Move them to the account's "Junk" folder
--> check "Mark messages determined to be Junk as read"
2. Edit->Account Settings->Local Folders->Junk Settings
--> check "Mo

Thank you, Bieleke. I also noticed that I had a junk folder in two
accounts. I do not think it is necessary to keep a junk folder for my
gmail account, because in gmail there is an spam label, not junk label,
so I deleted that one. It works that way for me, too, even selecting

Ok ... good news... i have a fix that can be done in Thunderbird

Go to your email accounts, and for EACH account be sure that the move to
spambox is checked,

message is marked spam, and marked read (as configged in preferences)
but not moves the message to spam box while that one is checked asswell
as in preferences as for each email-account i have.
I'm getting this same bug, in Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 in Kubuntu 8.04.1.
The workaround suggested by Roelof did not work for me either.

Thank you Roelof ...
I agree that this still isn't an ideal solution, but I've been pulling
my hair out over this, so anything which gets it working again is good
news to me.
Much appreciated ...

Had the same problem. It was somewhat 'solved' by setting the junk
filtering options that are under 'Account settings'. When I set these
too, instead of just the global settings, the junk messages were
correctly moved to the junk folder, behaviour as expected. I feel this
is more of a workaround th
Confirming on Gutsy with all updates (both with automarking of Junk and
manual marking of Junk, as noted by lapega above).
