After upgrading kernel to 4.4.0-57-generic via apt dist-upgrade, the fan seems
work.
The fan starts working when the CPU temperature goes above 45'C, and stops when
the CPU cool down.
Does anyone still having issues?

There was a patch about acpi fan control last month. The original issue might
got solved by it.

properly.

I have the same issue on my ES1-331 with Ubuntu 16.04.1. Both fancontrol
and the thermal driver (/sys/class/thermal/cooling_device0/max_state)
don't work. I need to reboot to get the fan works when it is overheat.
That really bother me!

Additionally fan stops after suspend/resume.
When resume fan goes to maximum (sounds like that) then completely stops.

Newer kernel definitely change many things (even cpu temperature decrees with
same load - that looks strange).
But fan issue still present. No matter how high increase the temperature fan
remain silent.

I think this bug exists from the beginning of this laptop existence.
