also, if you were brave and had previously installed unity8-desktop, or mir
related stuff...make sure to
sudo apt-get remove mir-client-platform-mesa3 mir-client-platform-mesa2
mir-client-platform-mesa1
just in case those are present and might create havoc

Can you give a bit more details on what your environment is (you can use
apport-collect 1565973).
Is unity8 even running? It sounds like you never get past the greeter -
in which case logs from /var/log/lightdm might be helpful (clear it
before you try logging in to the unity8 session).
