Found the solution. The reason was the insufficient amount of RAM (256Mb in my case) which, on some platform (various graphc cards etc.) was insufficient to "format" to run. Inreasing the RAM amount to 512Mb solved the problem. -- Gutsy re-install fails on VIA Pentium III chipsets https://bugs.
