Public bug reported: I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial daily build dated 12 April.
I added gnome-shell but still used lightdm to log in. Lightdm works OK with both gnome-shell and unity. I changed the greeter to gdm3 (sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm) and the subsequent log in provided a wall of text and stopped booting. I could not get to a terminal to reconfigure the greeter and I had to switch off the PC via the power button. I was unable to change the log-in greeter using the Ubuntu recovery system. Following an internet search, I added an instruction to the grub entry to allow me to boot directly into a bash command shell to reconfigure and reboot with lightdm. Instruction is:- "add the following to the end of the line starting with /boot/vmlinuz… –add rw init=/bin/bash" ** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571227 Title: Unable to arrive at Desktop using gdm3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1571227/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
