The above fix proposed by archdrone also works for the HP Compaq 2510p
(just change the C098 with C099).
And this is a duplicate of bug #157691. I will tag it as such, since
bug #157691 has much better desc
HP 6510b, HH 8.04, 2.6.24-8-generic
#echo 1 > /proc/acpi/video/C098/DOS
and put this line in your /etc/rc.local
it seems it works for me but still this is a bug

I'm running 2.6.24-8-generic on gutsy (built it myself from git) and I'm
still seeing this issue. Before I upgraded to the Ubuntu kernel, I was
running 2.6.24-rc3 and 2.6.24-rc6 with no problems. I'll probably do

Hi,
I've got a HP 6510b notebook and a problem with closing the lid. Everytime I
do that, the whole system freezes:
I can see gnome, etc, but mouse and keyboard aren't reacting
