Public bug reported: Using Gutsy Gibbon Final Release
Problem is as follows: Upon booting up in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Final Release, we are presented with a login screen that appears out of sync. Everything on the screen has an animated fuzzy appearance. After logging in blindly, I was able to find the Screen Resolution and to switch the resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600, which resolved the sync issue. Unfortunately after trying to force a 60hz sync value for 1024x768, I was still unable to switch into that resolution without being presented with an unreadable out of sync display. Several suggestions were made in the Ubuntu Forums, but all have been unsuccessful. Changing the driver from ati to a Generic vesa driver, I had no trouble entering into the 1024x768 resolution without sync issues. This bug also presents itself on the Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Live CD and one must blindly change the resolution to 800x600 in order to be able to being installation. This problem affects Integrated Graphics adapters in several models of HP laptops from HP Pavilion ze4xxx to ze5xxx. The IGPs in these computers are ATI Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M also known as ATI Mobility The following forum has several posts from other frustrated users on the same issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=580963&highlight=fuzzy+screen One user has also mention that this problem affects OpenSUSE 10.3 and has related that it may be due to the new Kernel used by both Ubuntu and OpenSUSE distributions.
