Apparently sometimes this file doesn't get updated properly for some
reason...
Java in OpenOffice works fine after removing
$HOME/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml file.
Somehow the java virtual machine path has not been updated. The file is
recreated on OpenOffice restart
I believe that this bug has been corrected in Ubuntu hardy
openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3 so I am marking it as Fix Released.
If after upgrading you continue to have problems with this issue then
feel free to reopen this bug.
Thanks,
Chris Cheney

I'm experiencing the same problems.
Might be connected: I'm able to select a java jre at openoffice
preferences, but when calling the dialog again, all changes are gone.
Additional to that, openoffice detects the installed icetea jre, but not
sun java 6.

Marking this as Importance: High.
Although not all Ubuntu users are OOo users, this effectively prevents
any OOo users from using any of the wizards or database functionality in
OOo, among others.

Confirming this in Hardy Alpha4.
Even installing the JRE 5 from Add/Remove doesn' t solve this.
Under Options Java the currently installed JRE does not show up.

I can confirm this with OpenOffice 2.3 on Gutsy. I had to set the JRE by
hand in the settings dialog.
