Thanks for this bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. This
particular bug has been already reported as bug #150930 which affects
ubiquity which install a bad /etc/usplash.conf during the ubuntu

I found a solution:

my file looks like this:

xres=1024
yres=768
then run:
sudo update-initramfs -u
that did the trick for me.

I tried to set vga=791 as kernel boot option and/or removed quiet and
splash but it does not help.
However tty1 does work.

Yea i tried the same things, and got nothing. I have the integrated ati
card. Im thinking it has to do with the driver. Oh well, maybe when amd\ati
release a new driver ill try that. Even the new 8.42.3 is not helping at
all.
