Thanks for your bug report. There has been a bug with ubiquity installer
which installed wrong values in /etc/usplash.conf of a huge quantity of
computers in Gutsy, this is bug #150930. Can you download and install
the latest Hardy alpha release and confirm if you can still reproduce
this bug?

I found out that Ubuntu's install must have gotten something wrong in the
initramfs. What I did was the following to get usplash nicely shown from right
after grub menu exits:
1) sudo gedit /etc/usplash.conf to read:
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1024
yres=768
2) sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.ls
i have the same problem on my laptop , i rather see a freezed image of
my desktop that lasts for 2 or 3 seconds at startup instead of the
usplash, and then at the shutdown i see very large ugly fonts of the X
scripts.

I found a related bug where the same behaviour is described only with
LiveCD, Tribe5 and Nvidia GeForce: Bug #140759. Also I found a rather
