Well, this was a LONG time ago, and I must have figured out how to get around
the bug, or the bug was fixed, but...
It seems to me that reporting not being able to get Wi-Fi to work, when it had
worked perfectly well in all [L]Ubuntu versions I had used previous to 16.04
(with no fiddling at all
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fix
