Brian, this bug is not about the Debian-exim group (which was present on
my system before the upgrade, too), but about the update-exim4.conf
script parsing files in /etc/exim4/conf.d which it should not.

I had this problem with 7.10 and 8.04. I added the following group and
it worked fine.
sudo groupadd Debian-exim

I just encountered the same on upgrading from dapper to hardy. After skimming
through the config files, I found out that update-exim4.conf greps through
/etc/exim4/conf.d, including backup files ("01~") for the DEBCONF strings.
After removing all *~ files, it went through. This could/should b
