Although this is still ongoing in Ubuntu with Hardy (fresh install or
upgrade), Debian testing/unstable work correctly with my monitor (as did
Fiesty), suggesting something is odd with the Ubuntu X configuration.
The situation is sufficiently bad that I've basically been forced to
switch to running
Unfortunately, that's not a solution for me. I have an ATI card that is
no longer supported by ATI/AMD, and the last supported driver release
does not work with xorg 7.3. So in Fiesty+, I'm limited to the open-

I have solved part of the problem. I determined upon a thorough
examination of the xorg log and a lot of Googling that DDC and EDID were
the problem. If I add the line
Option "DDC" "false"
to the "Monitor" section of xorg.conf, it eliminates about half the
extraneous monitor modes and now uses
I've also found that if I go to a full-screen mode application, then
exit the application, my resolution returns to that of the login screen
rather than my set resolution. In fact, at that point my list of
available resolutions includes nearly every "normal" (and a few
abnormal) resolutions betwee
I can confirm this. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/147242 also
appears to be the same problem. In my case, none of the various
solutions being tossed around launchpad or in the forums has worked
(e.g., remove the "virtual" line from xorg.conf, because I don't have
one to begin with). My

I'm sorry, but has there been any progress on this? This is still an

I've discover an additional related bug. If I set my visual effects
settings to "none", everything outside the first 640x480 (I think)
pixels becomes untouchable. If I set it back, everything goes back to
normal.
