E.g. in this way:

or in this way:

But then again, why is a border necessary when only one message is
visible; and - other question - why should the border enclose the
messag
@Harm: are you talking about the border of the status line? If so,
please note that the status bar can display more than one message
concurrently, and they are enclosed to allow one to distinguish one
message from another.

I am not arguing to remove the statusbar completely. I am well aware
of its usability features and am completely in favor of keeping it.
When mail is being checked, a message appears in the statusbar. That
message has a border around it and that border - not the message
itself - isn't usabi

The idea of a status bar is to show the current status, if this means tell the
user that the mail is being checked, this is what should do, not just when you
click on the send/receive button the mail is checked, this can also be
configured in the preferences of the mail account, case i
