with Welcome or Boutique (but rather, general feedback about gnome-
software itself), this is not a bug that is fixed in ubuntu-mate-welcome
-- the Boutique is installing software as expected.

gnome-software itself does not seem to do anything when I ask to install
a software package. The only thing which changes is the indicator
"pending" goes on, but that is it. When I do the install via apt-get
install synapse (the actual example), synapse installs okay and works.

It installed "software" okay. While I was playing around, this bug
occurred. I really don't know what it is. But since this 1610, I thought
I let you know.
