Hi Marcocanto,
It appears the original issue this bug report is about was resolved with
the recent Hardy kernel. I'm going to go ahead and close this report.
If you are still having issues with your nvidia driver, please open a
new report. Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated
version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron
Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you
can, please verify

Hi,
I have installed and tested the new kernel 2.6.24-1 released as test.
In attach you have kernel.log dmesg.
All seams to function very well. ACPI doesn't hang the boot process and the CPU
is correctly scaled, too.
The problem is that these new alpha kernel/source are build with a new

Hi,
good news ;-)
I have re-compiled by hand 2.6.22.14 in order to boot without intird and
with root fs in read-write mode so now I have the kernel.log, it's
attached to this email.
Below some rows about acpi.
Let me know if you need further information.
Best regards

Hi,
excuse me, you are right.
I have noticed that in the kernel.log are written then logs of sveral boot in
append mode but only that one that doesn't hangs the system.
When I boot I use initrd and the root fs is in readonly, all seams fine and
when the system start checking filesystem it hangs.

Hi Marcocanto,
It looks like acpi=off in the log file you posted:
Kernel command line: root=UUID=b557efc4-b28c-4e0c-b043-65306a1bc34f ro
acpi=off
If it is easier for you, you can take a digital photo which captures the
output of when the system hangs during boot. Then just attach the photo
to
Hi,
I have installed again ubuntu 7.10 and with acpi=on the system hangs.
In attach you have the file that you have asked me.

Marcocanto, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you see if any useful information
regarding the system hang appears in the logs?
1. boot without acpi=off to force the system hang
2. reboot with acpi=off
3. look at /var/log/kern.log.0

Hi,
because I need ACPI in my notebook I have re-installed ubuntu 7.04 that it's
perfect for my hardware (asus A7m sempron 64bit chipset NForce)
In this moment I'm installing 7.10 alternate again on an external usb hard disk.
Please note that to install it I need to boot with acpi=off also
Hi, I'm running an ASUS A8M Laptop, and having the same problem running
2.6.22-14-generic.
The work-around of adding acpi=off in the kernel boot string is working
for me, but wasn't needed with the 2.6.20 kernel.
