I have the same problem with the amd64 release and the German
repository. This is my /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log:
2007-11-04 16:55:08,616 INFO release-upgrader version '0.81' started
2007-11-04 16:55:09,163 DEBUG lsb-release: 'feisty'
2007-11-04 16:55:09,163 DEBUG _pythonSymlinkCheck run
Does this happen if you try to run the upgrade again? Looks like the
update manager didnt realise that the jp.archve.ubuntu.com was an
official repository.
