Hi, thank you for taking your time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
MySQL is a hard, non-removable dependency for akonadi because akonadi does not have a runtime backend detection mechanism. So if for whatever reason the mysql backend would not be installed by default or be replaced with a different backend, akonadi will show an error message saying that the MySQL backend is not functional. A common user is given no hint what is actually wrong, and most don't even know what MySQL even is. If you prefer to use a different akonadi backend, feel free to install one, but the core mysql packages cannot be removed to guarantee that akonadi will work fine in its default configuration. ** Changed in: akonadi (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1595405 Title: Akonadi depends on mysql but may be used with other backends To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/akonadi/+bug/1595405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
