I cannot recreate this under hardy, I plugged in my iPod, shut down the
machine, yanked the iPod up and booted up and the 'IPOD' directory in
/media was not present.

Nice one. I just checked my /media directory and there is my mp3 player's
directory which is not connected now.
This bug should be looked at.
