I have an Inspiron 2600, I got Ubuntu 7.1 to install, but not much else.
You need to download the ALTERNATE CD, when you go to download the
regular one on Ubuntu's site, down at the bottom it says Check here if
you need the Alternate CD or something like that. The Alt CD is a text
only
