I, too, had this problem but it went away when disabling the Legacy
Fullscreen Support in CompizConfig Settings Manager:

Also here on a powerpc system. Just for me with slideshow it shows a small box
and blurry inside, i couldn't maximize it and after a few moments f-spot
crashes.
I also noticed that totem firefox plugin doesn't go to fullscreen but just
shows a small box. The normal totem window goes fullscreen
Same configurations: Gutsy 7.10 f-spot 0.4.0
The workaround works.. but if far from perfect.
Something similar happens with skype 2.0 for linux. If i choose
fullscreen then the video will be a little screen in other place of the
screen

Confirmed, gutsy amd64 user with compiz.
If I right-click on the fullscreen task and choose maximize, then I
almost get full-screen (the gnome panels are on-top).
