I've confirmed this on my installation of Gutsy. Version is 1.6.4.dfsg-0ubuntu2.
To reproduce -- with the ESV translation open in a window, click the Display
Options icon, then select "Show scripture cross references".
There is a new version available -- 1.6.5. Perhaps it fixes this?
