Adding this line to kernel command line disables the hardware
acceleration which badly affects the performance of the system. In my
humble opinion,this might not be an acceptable workaround.

I have found that adding nouveau.noaccel=1 to the Kernel command line in
/etc/default/grub has solved the lockups. You may want to try.
