I have just conducted the following tests in response to the question
from Michael Nagel.
1) I am presently running Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64.
2) I downloaded jeos-8.04.1-jeos-i386.iso and ubuntu-8.04.1-server-i386.iso on
the 6th of August, 2008.
3) I installed each of them in QEMU.
Everything seemed
I installed bochsbios-qemu (2.3.5-1ubuntu1) from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/bochsbios-qemu in my Gutsy-host as
suggested by Gioele Barabucci.
No go, both installing from iso and fysical CD still gives the same
(negative) result.
As I don't have a complete Hardy-environment: it could be

- Dapper Aerver 6.06.1: OK
- Hardy JeOS Alpha 5: fails

tested for Ubuntu JeOS 7.10).
