16.04 is based on the 4.4 kernel. The 16.04 -proposed kernel now has
the 4.4.35 stable updates.
Would it be possible for you to test this latest kernel and post back if it
resolves this bug?

I have upgraded the kernel to 4.9.0-040900rc5-generic and the issue
