I'm having a similar issue with a Dell XPS 13 9360.
I'm running Gentoo and kernel 4.9.0.
COLD booting the laptop fixed it.
After the cold boot the following line reappeared in the lspci command:

I spoke too soon. Sound was working the first time I switched from 4.9
to 4.4, though volume couldn't be changed in the UI.
However, after I rebooted again (4.4 -> 4.4) I never got sound to work
again.
I'm now returning the laptop (for this and other reasons - e.g. battery
life sucks) so I can't
I went back to 4.4.0 - sound works. It doesn't work in 4.8 or 4.9.

Apport is not working on the affected laptop. It opens chrome with a
blank tab and does nothing further.
