The top solution is to delete the lock. Which is not right as it may and corrupting DPKG files while running two operations simultanously. The best solution i can think of is to let the user know about such background running operation: - either by showing the indicator (which currently not visible while downloading lists) - or sending a low priority notification message, about running update. I like more indicator option, it seems more convenient to give user ability to stop it too.
