try to update your FF and we are closing this bug report because there
is no respon for this thread for a long time. Don't hesitate to submit
bug reports in the future. To reopen the bug report you can click on the
current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to

The behaviour is the same even in safe mode.
One more thing I noticed is that if firefox doesn't have a previously
downloaded location in it's memory, then the filename is retained.
By default the Save Link As download location is ~/
Download any file by using 'save link as' into ~/Pictures
I could not reproduce this. Maybe its triggered by an extension. Try to
start firefox in -safe-mode from the command line like:
firefox -safe-mode
