Public bug reported: When performing tls authentication to an SMTP server which has an unverified OCSP record, as is the case with all new StartSSL certificates for about 24hrs, thunderbird reports the following error:
Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.example.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again. This is very confusing and impossible to troubleshoot. It should report "The server's SSL certificate failed OCSP validation. To reproduce, go get a startssl certificate, add it to an smtp server, connect with thunderbird, receive error. In settings, disable ocsp verification, and it connects with no error and behaves as expected. ** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675608 Title: OCSP failure gives "unknown error" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1675608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
