Public bug reported:

This tool was originally written in 2004, and comes from Daring
Fireball. It has never been a "project" and has no code repository.

Yet it had/has flaws, and some changes have been made as part of Ubuntu.
And there are users of the tool (notably Xen) so it appears that this
simple invention is not going anywhere.

But it needs some love.

Since there is no project/owner/maintainer, I would like to adopt this
project, put it up on github in a proper repo, and make some changes
and improvements to it. Assuming I get agreement from the original
author...

How do I go about doing that, in a way that helps Canonical incorporate
new versions of the project?

** Affects: markdown (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
