Leaving the system and coming back, it was fine and the extensions
worked again. Possibly a side effect of bug 1876641 (high memory
usage?)

My system is currently in a state where changes in gnome-shell-
extension-prefs also aren't sticking.The toggle toggles, but
extension isn't activated. Not sure if this is a different bug or the
same one.
