Hi there, I am having this issue too on the same hardware.
This laptop is currently running 14.04 32 bits.
With 14.04 32 bits, there is a message in the log, but it has no effect
but spitting messages in the log!
With 18.04 64bits live, there is the "flip_done timed out" issue. Each one

This has been going on for awhile. Related bug #1682921
The last time it worked right (if memory serves) was the LTS kernel that
shipped with 16.04.
I will test mainline as time permits.
