Public bug reported:

Intermittently the results are blank or just a white place holder. Just above 
where the files should be listed shows X number of files but none are shown in 
the search result box. To remedy this I found I can run the search button again 
and then the results will show.
My installed version is 3.6.0-1(trusty) for Ubuntu-Gnome 14.04.5 LTS 
[4.4.0-101-generic], However the problem has been present across multiple 
updates as far back as 36.
This problem seems to be more persistent when run with sudo permissions, that I 
use often as too many results are excluded for files owned by "root"
