ZOWEETEK cheapo sub wifi dongle from Amazon stopped working after ubuntu update.
downloading and running the autoinstall for this driver got me going again

I downloaded the driver while using kernel v4.10 and booted in v4.13 and
followed the steps. no success. also no ethernet port.

Might be a silly question, but did you try installing driver why running
kernel v4.10 instead of v4.13? I have plugged in the network cable,
booted to v4.13 and installed rtl driver. Rebooted. This worked for me,
although this way after each kernel upgrade manual installation will be
needed (again)
