Public bug reported: The so-called upgrade to Gnome Shell came with some pretty bad things also for wifi management.
One of the bad things is that one cannot know what introduced in the wifi password text box. There is not "show password" option to actually see what we introduced over there, like in any other OS (Windows, Ubuntu with Unity, Android, etc.). I have made this comparision video between Unity and Gnome Shell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2UbE2xh1Q0 Also, it removed some extremely useful things: - it takes about 3 times longer to connect to Wifi - you click a lot more times for that ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: network-manager 1.8.4-1ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-32.35-generic 4.13.13 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-32-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Feb 15 15:55:59 2018 IfupdownConfig: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-21 (116 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) IpRoute: default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlp13s0 proto static metric 600 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlp13s0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.1.0/24 dev wlp13s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.125 metric 600 NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=false SourcePackage: network-manager UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) nmcli-dev: DEVICE TYPE STATE DBUS-PATH CONNECTION CON-UUID CON-PATH wlp13s0 wifi connected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/3 r4.drumliber.ro c5955803-4b8a-4a17-acdf-2221833f79ce /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/13 enp14s0 ethernet unavailable /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/2 -- -- -- lo loopback unmanaged /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/1 -- -- -- nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSION STATE STARTUP CONNECTIVITY NETWORKING WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN running 1.8.4 connected started full enabled enabled enabled enabled disabled ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749714 Title: Cannot show misspelled wifi password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1749714/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
