I've tried to reproduce this this on 0.97.2~debian-2ubuntu2. It's
obvious that left-click would insert the smile and that right-click will
give you some configuration. I therefor close this bug.

You can remove it but not within amsn.
It's stored in ~/.amsn/[msn address]/smileys
But I agree it's a feature that should exist. But it's should be
reported upstream.
