Further to my post above, a workaround seems to be to put the subtracted
cell at the start of the formula. That doesn't help, of course, if your
formula has two or more subtracted cells!

formulae.It seems to me to be associated with subtraction of a cell in a
formula, as changing the (-) sign in front of the cell reference to a (+) sign
eliminates the problem.

This bug appears to be fixed in Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org
1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3 so I am marking it as Fix Released. If after
upgrading you continue to have trouble with this issue then please feel
free to reopen the bug.

Open a new spreadsheet
Use R1C1 mode as following:
Format > Sheet > Use R1C1 (in the menu)
Put a random value in a cell of your choice (say, R1C1)
Choose another cell (say, R1C2)
Make a reference to the c
After doing a small bit of testing it seems that when in R1C1 mode if
you do something like R1C2=A1 it works. However, you will notice that
if you click back on R1C2, it is set to =RC[-1]. If you try to type
=RC[-1] by hand for R1C2 you'll again get the #NAME? error. Just
thought I'd share, than
