Hardy LiveCD fails to identify nVidia 8400M
I tried the i386 version of Hardy alpha 6 and all functions as normal.
Is this because read-edid is i386 only? Problem seems to be limited to
the 64-bit ubuntu...

This has gone back to the original behaviour in Hardy alpha 6 - boot to
the install option screen (lo-res) then choose to run the LiveCD -
screen goes black and never recovers. Not even a manual configuration
option!

i am experiencing the same problem with a 8400GS on a Dell XPS M1330.
what i see here, is that the wrong kernel module is loaded for this
videocard. even after manually installing nvidia-glx-new, this error is
thrown:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 71.86.01, but

Let's try to figure out why it doesn't boot up using the free driver. It
fails to autoconfigure for some reason. Could you attach
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old from the livecd? It should be from the session
where it tries to use -nv.

This is still a problem on Hardy Alpha 3 - Though slightly improved
because it now boots into low graphics mode.
When I go through the device selection and define screen res 1280x800
and the nv driver, the test resolution looks fine but once I hit OK I
get dumped to a shell.

displays nothing on-screen. Hardy is responsive to Ctrl-Alt-BAckspace
