I found this behaviour, when I had to restart kicker with "dcop kicker
kicker restart"
Konversation, Kopete, Kontact (Kmail, and Korganizer) disappeared.

This is definitely not a limitation of X.
Almost all tray icons work fine, including ones I have authored myself.
A few that stick around are GL Desktop, Nut client, and Mail-
Notification.

I think this is limtation of X tray protocol. Do other tray icons work
after restart of the panel? Can you list applications that behave
correctly?
