I have an acer aspire 9802wkmi with 2.1 sound system (small subwoofer built into my laptop) with a 82801G (IHC7) ALC883 chip I have been trying basically all things available now during the last week to get my sound to work correctly. I have tried both ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10, and an older & newer kernel (2.6.20-18 & 2.6.24-?) I think it was but no matter what I have only sound in my built-in subwoofer. It's working fine if I boot up in windows. I have tried alsa 1.0.14 to 1.0.15 final, and the backports & the ones from Realtek I have made sure that all channels are unmuted, and tried basically all options like acer,acer-aspire stacker3, stacker5, toshiba, rel, test, medion, etc. All of them gave me sound in the subwoofer, but not medion & a couple of others which didnt produce any sound at all. When I move the 2 sliders, PCM, (left + right ch), and Front (left+right ch), they all adjust the loudness of my subwoofer, independant of each other. Any ideas if this is a kernel or alsa bug, or something totally different ? Please let me know if you need additional info.
