I do not see it as related to external problem. As far as I can understand the situation, it relates to certain configuration during initial loading of Live CD. It does not matter where wrong configuration came from: were it external program, or (stupid) actions of newbie- superuser. I am willing

First of all, thank you very much. Sorry, I needed the machine, so I re-formatted root partition. I did not preserve copy of the update log either, as Linux was not bootable. I do not consider this to be related to update process per se. My primary concern were problems during installation
