Is this with KDE 3.5 or 4?
gtk-qt-engine won't work with KDE4 (see bug 188415).
According to the last comment, I'm marking it Fix released. Please reopen it
and add more information, in case there's still a problem.

I can confirm the above solution fixes the issue. Fact remains that this
should somehow be updated/included in the package so people won't run
into it when installing hardy.
I can understand people want to promote KDE packages, but when you need
the Gnome ones, you don't want them to look that
Changing the status to confirm' because several people can reproduce

Bugs,
Thanks, Bruno, for the hint. But I think it's better to link the file:
ln -s .gtkrc-2.0-kde .gtkrc-2.0
This way changes should be updated automatically.

There's a temporary workaround you can use:
(1) Install a GTK theme like QtCurve. A default Kubuntu install will
only have Raleigh (unpleasing) and QtGTK (doesn't work).
(2) Run gtk-chtheme (in Universe) and select the new theme.
Hope this helps.

GTK themes doesn't work.
Well, wonderful!
I installed gtk-chtheme, and I was able to set all
GTK themes (Including QT, but since I installed QtCurve, and I like it more)
Especially I like its settings (everything is customizable)
Only thing to mention, is that gtk-chtheme sometimes crashes.
Now we need to know
1)
I confirm this.
I tried to change theme in gtk-qt config page in system-settings, doesn't work.
I even installed gnome-control-center, and tried to change theme there.
Funny though the applet that changes the theme, does change its appearance,
but other applications' look doesn't change.
Same
Yes, GTK+ themes seem to not apply under KDE currently. We only get the rather
ugly default unthemed GTK+ look.
GTK+ Themes work fine under Gnome through.
