remark which doesn't belong to the bug, but may be interesting for one or the other reader: you don't need the CTAN package cjk anymore, if you like to typeset chinese whith unicode. just use ucs in your document preamble: \usepackage[cjkbg5]{ucs} % belongs to utf8x, the x is important
